Inclement Weather Notice
In the event of bad weather, passengers transported by Swain Public Transit can check our Facebook page, "Swain Public Transit," watch local news (News 13 WLOS), or call the transit office at 828.488.3213 for information regarding delays or cancellations of transportation services. During inclement weather, the safety of passengers and drivers is the top priority at Swain
Public Transit.
Holiday Notice
We will only schedule local trips for December 22nd, 23rd, 29th, and 30th.
We will be closed on December 24th, 25th, 26th, and 31st - and January 1st and 2nd.

Scheduling a Ride
Local (Bryson City Area): Requests for transportation are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Scheduling your ride as far in advance as possible is preferred, but it can be made no later than 2:00 PM at least one business day before the date of the trip. If calls are received after 2:00 PM or the route capacity is already met, transportation will not be provided.
Outside Bryson City Area: Trips must be scheduled at least 3 business days in advance of the trip. If appointments are made less than 3 days in advance, they will be taken on availability only. Appointment times for out-of-county trips must be made no earlier than 10:00 AM and no later than 1:00 PM. Ride requests are not taken on the weekend; therefore, a request for transportation on Monday must be made by 12:00 PM.

Useful Information
You Should Know:
- Passengers should be ready and waiting for the Swain Public Transit vehicle arrival.
- There is a 30-minute "Service window". This means Swain Public Transit can pick you up 30 minutes before or after your scheduled pick-up time for a local trip.
- No disruptive or abusive behavior (physical or verbal) to other passengers or the driver will be tolerated.
- No profanity or vulgarity is allowed while onboard.
- Passengers are not permitted to eat, drink, or use tobacco products of any kind on vehicles.
- Passengers must wear seat belts at all times. This is an NC State law.
- No screaming, loud talking, singing, or playing music on the Swain Public Transit vehicle.
- No Inappropriate displays of affection toward the driver or other passengers will be tolerated.
- No weapons are allowed on vehicles.
- No child under 8 years of age or 80 pounds will be transported unless in an age-appropriate car seat provided by the parent or guardian.
- Remove all trash and personal belongings with you when you exit the vehicle.
- Swain Public Transit is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
- Service animals only are permitted on Swain Transit Public vehicles. No pets allowed.
- Swain Public Transit reserves the right to refuse service to anyone.
- You MUST call after 2:00 PM the day before your scheduled trip to confirm your pick-up time for the next day.
